Protecting Canada’s Publicly Funded, Not-for-profit Health System: Non-Ratification of the Trans-Pacific Partnership
In this submission to the standing committee on international trade, CNA recommends against ratifying the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). While there may be benefits for some sectors, the deal has potentially serious implications for how health systems are governed. Among our concerns is the fact that the cost of drugs would increase as a result of extending drug patents (meaning a delay in the availability of less expensive generic medicines).
